Twinkie Famine in Madison

Twinkies alternatives remain well stocked, but the classic snack is no longer available in Madison, Indiana.

Madison is facing it’s first Twinkie crisis since the snack food came to town (likely in the 1950s.) Employees at the local Kroger say their supply was hoarded by a handful of zealous customers last week. Finger pointing aside, the “Golden Sponge Cake with Creamy Filling” has gone underground in Jefferson County, Indiana.

You can find imitation products at Walmart (pictured above) but a rose by any other name will never smell so sweet. Just pay the $20 and buy some on Amazon.

Will this panic lead to a new twist on the Twinkie defense?

All joking aside, everyone is assuming the brand will be resurrected after Hostess is liquidated. That may take several months.

Stay hungry my friends.

  1. I work at Kroger’s and I can honestly say that some people were down right rude when it came to Twinkies. I had just picked the last box off the table to purchase and a very tall man with his arms full of Twinkies actually took the box right out of my hand.

That’s sad to hear. I wonder if he really was going to eat them all or trying to make a few bucks on eBay.
