Despite the chatter in the national media and efforts on social media, our local Walmart in Madison will NOT be disrupted. In fact, the several employees we spoke with knew very little about the proposed boycott and strikes.
One worker said he was more nervous about the crowds on Black Friday. Another attributed the trouble to Union membership of California Walmart workers
Not much of a story here.
Our readers on Facebook had some spirited discussion on the question. Here are a few of the high points.
Walmart has provided for my family for almost 15 years. I knew when I was hired that I would have to work holidays. They will fire anyone who walks out without blinking an eye. One or 500 people.
Unions need to stop interfering with business, unless wanted, they just want more control and money for their own pockets and those of obama. We are losing our freedoms one by one, wake up America!!!!
Not sure about Madison, but when I asked a couple of employees at the wal-mart in Scottsburg, IN, they had no idea what I was talking about.
We are in a struggling economy. Many people are out of work. I personally don’t understand why anyone would want to jeopardize their job over getting holiday pay. The media is making a big stink over the evil empire called Wal-Mart. Years ago, my wife and I both managed for Blockbuster Video. We were open 365 days a year. The movie theaters are open on Thanksgiving evening and that is one of their busiest times. Whether you like it or not, we do still live in a capitalistic society, for now. Business is consumer driven. So don’t bark at Wal-Mart, Target or any other business that wants to be there for their customers.
