On Tuesday at 7PM, our Hanover Panthers (3-0) played in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse against the NCAA Division I Butler Bulldogs. Unlike their exhibition meeting in 2010, this counted as a regular season game for both teams.
Butler held off the Panthers in a final score of 97 – 73. Hanover wasn’t able to match with Butler’s inside game, losing the battle in the paint and on the boards.
Butler was 35-of-59 from the field (59.3%). The Bulldogs outscored Hanover in the paint, 48-28, but the Panthers’ bench, led by Van Kleunen’s season high, outscored Butler’s reserves, 42-24.
Hanover was outrebounded, 42-22, but the Panthers did collect 10 offense rebounds. Nowicki and James led the squad with four rebounds apiece.

Coach Jon Miller gave me a little insight before the matchup:
We are very excited as a program to have the opportunity to take on Butler in historic Hinkle Fieldhouse. I know our players will be excited and ready compete hard against Butler, a team we have a lot of respect for. In terms of preparing for the game we will work to treat it in the same way we would any of our regular season games just to keep our guys in their regular routine as much as possible. We will concentrate mainly on ourselves and the things we do on offense and defense.
